I am the Creative Project Manager for Head for Arts.
This organisation is run as a partnership between four local authorities in the Heads of the Valleys East (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen) to address gaps in community arts provision across the area and increase participation in arts activities. Head for Arts receives revenue funding from the Arts Council of Wales.
Head for Arts employs many arts practitioners and has keen interest in the ArtWorks research in order to ensure that there is a resource of approriately skilled artists available to deliver our programmes of work. We can also provide a useful connection between the research proramme and local authority arts services in Wales.
This academic view is just an extension of that old chestnut "Those who can,do. Those who can't, teach". There is also the added problem of regarding work in participatory practice as akin to "teaching" or "training" without acknowledging how artists inspire, unlock and respond to the participants' creative development.
